Hi Valerie,
You can get 8 ply cotton from Bendigo wool in vic.
You can buy it on line or call them I also send you a phone number from a
shop in Brisbain that sells wool and cotton that you can get in the states
here is the number for you the lady is very helpful.

She even stocks a lot of different looms.

Portia and Cathy, thanks very much for the info about knitting cotton  I
will check Amazon and also the links suggested.  I had a look at a local
shop today and they did not stock the 8 ply either.

Krafters korner has a resource page listing sites that members have found
helpful for various crafts. One section is for crocheting and knitting and
lists a number of sites from which to purchase yarn. this might be a place
to start. You will need to go to each site to see which of them ship
internationally.
