Hi Bobby;

Sorry for the delay!

First cut a piece of yarn, by putting the end in your left hand and spreading your arms, twice. You should have a long piece, maybe about 6 yards long. I maybe exaggerating some! Thread your needle and bring the needle to the center. Even the ends.
Take the original coaster and bring it frum the back, through the very corner square. Leave a tail of maybe 3 inches.
Pick up a blank piece of canvas and hold it against the coaster, in the back, of course!
Take your yarn up and over the edge of both pieces of canvas and come through both pieces, agin in the first square. Pull your yarn all the way through so it is snug and flat. Continue going over the 2 pieces of canvas and going through the next square.
Make sure your yarn goes through straight so your stitches are smooth.

At a corner, do the corner square and turn 90 dgs and do the same square again. Continue down the next side.

Ending
After making the last stitch to close off the last corner, your needle will be coming up towards you. This is a bit tricky! Take your needle and go over the bar, between the first and second square on the first side, right below the edging, slide your needle between the 2 pieces of canvas and down a few squares, about half the size of the needle and poke the needle, out the back. Pull the needle and yarn through. You might have to flex the canvas some to do this. Make sure the stitch on the frunt is nice and snug and then cut the yarn. Use your needle if any yarn is sticking out, to push it under the canvas.

Now you are don!!!
It will become second nature after you do a few.

If you want for the first few, use a single strand of yarn, but I think the double strand looks a lot better.

Let me know how things go/.

I feal like I just wrote a book!
Tricky putting this into words instead of just saying everything.

Terry P.

Okay Terry, I did all of the stitching of my first coaster. Now I need help with the overcast stitch. I read in the book that I needed to do the overcast it to finish the edges and I'm not sure how to do it. Please help?

I tried to start the coasters today, but I'm not sure which way to go after I go from 1-1 to 3-3. I've looked at the picture, but I cannot figure out from the picture which way to go. I'm not sure if I'm holding the picture the right way.
