Terry,

First, I must say, I give you a lot of credit for your stick to it attitude.
You do not give up, you wanted to learn to crochet and you have kept coming
back and trying and trying and that is a great attitude, even better than
mine with knitting. Let me give you the answer to where you go into a
stitch. The book or proper way would state, Under both strands, however, I
do not find this true. I would tell you be Consistent...try to go thru the
stitch under the top strand if that makes your comfortable. I find when I go
thru two strands, my ch starts to twist, therefore, I commonly only go under
one strand. A difficult thing is feeling to feel the stitch, but as I have
stated, this is a very forgiving pattern, as roses and their petals are not
perfect, like the count, if the row comes out to the end without being
short, do not worry about count, add a stitch or take one away, it makes no
diffidence. The Rows one of 2dc,2ch,2dc, ch 1 is the bottom of the rose it
is the next row of 7 dc and 1 sc that makes the petals. I know it is easier
to use a larger hook and bulky yarn, and it might be possible, you are not
at a stage to scale down yet. Keep practicing and it will just snap and you
will get it, you do so many others things so well, do not let this get to
you.

How many pettles should the chain of 21 have, 5 or 6?
I am having a hard time finding my chain stitches, I mean telling them
apart.
Do I go through the double stranded side of the stitch or the single side of
the stitch? On the chain row, this single, double seams to move back and
forth or is my chain, twisting?
I did not have this trouble with a large hook and chuncky yarn. I am using
a p hook, I think.

Hi Terry,
Thanks so very much for posting these instructions. I am a beginner but I am
sure going to try this and send a few along if I am able to make them.
Lindy

Below is the complete pattern I shared with the list over 3 days last week.
Above find the chain amounts for the type of rose you are doing from a bud
to a small rose to a large one. If you have any questions please find the
phone number below the pattern for the Wednesday, May 6 chat at 8 PM for any
help you may need.

Rose Pattern

The instructions to make any of the roses are worked the same, if you want a
bud to large open rose, follow the instructions below.

For a bud: chain 12, large bud chain 15

Rose flower: use a chain 21 for small, medium chain 34, large chain 41

Make your foundation row Leave at least a 6 inch piece of yarn at the start
to use later., I taugh chain 21

Row one: Make 1 dc in fourth chain from hook. Ch 2, 2 dc in same stitch. Ch
1 Repeat following to end of row, Skip 2 ch, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc all in same
stitch, ch 1. At end of row ch 2 and turn.

Row 2: Sl st in first space, counts as 1 dc, make 6 dc in same space, sc in
next st. Repeat till end of row, 7 dc in space st, 1 sc next st, repeat to
end of row and fasten

Roll stitches in a cone shape, thread the tail that your left in the
beginning starting point onto a tapestry needle and stitch into the bottom
chain row to hold the rose together. You might need to place a stitch on the
last petal to hold in place and add additional stitches in the bottom to
secure rose. Open rose and rose is complete.

Wednesday Chat, May 6, at 8PM call in 605-781-1000 code 875029
