Why don't you take Terry Knox's intro to crochet class.  It might be pretty primitive for you but you might get some of your questions answered.
It is a shame you were not here a year or two, ago.  Cathy and Becky, I think, held a great intro to crochet, class.  
I have trouble following patterns, too.  I am a beginner!

Good morning!  Thought I would toss out my first question.
Is there a good resource for learning crochet stitches?  I have looked on crochet central and read through some of those instructions but some of them don't make sense to me.  I have to laugh.  I have crocheted for probably 40 years but I've never used pattern instructions. I feel like I am learning a new language.  lol!  Please don't tell me how easy it is.  I'm sure it is if you understand it.
Given some time, I'll learn.  Thanks so much!
