[Nfb-krafters-korner] List is slow So I will complain

Hi Liz,

I think it is probably worth our time and efforts to explore tools like
Skype and Google Hang-Out. I have used Skype on my PC with JAWS17 within
the past few months and found it to be fairly accessible, although not
perfect. It has been quite some time since I've used it on my iPhone, so I
cannot confirm that it is still accessible with Voice Over. Let me be
clear, that I am not talking about Skype for Business as that is far from
accessible. About 6 months ago I used Google Hang-Out on my iPhone.
Although I needed help getting my account set up, after that I was able to
control the actual video call independently with Voice Over. I used it to
participate in my friends knitting group during the snow storm last January.
I had wished I had try to set it up on my computer as I could not prop up my
iPhone so that I kept myself in the viewing area of the camera as we were
using the video conference feature. Everyone was showing off their projects
and asking for opinions on which yarns to use for there next project. It
was a very nice experience.

I think looking at these tools are a benefit for opening up access to our
international members. While the video feature is the widest used aspect of
these tools, I think there is an audio chat as well. A few of us might
consider doing a test to see how difficult it is to set up and use. If we
find that it works and it is accessible, then we could do a Monday Night
Chat about it. The next step would be to do a casual chat using the tool
before we ever consider using it for a class or topic specific chat. Of
course if we look at these tools and we find that they are not accessible,
then it is not the time to think of how to incorporate them into what we do
here at Krafter's Korner.

Annette

Hi Terry,

You have the right to choose the teaching style that works of you just as
students have choices about taking your classes.
What about teleconferencing like Skype or Google hangouts?
