Cathy, did you get an answer to this question? I would just go around and
around the last row on each end. You can hold the two ends together as you
sew. That will give you a little stretch if you don't pull it too tight.

I have made a knitted head band and am ready to sew the ends together. I
need a stretchy stitch. Suggestions for what sewing stitch to use would be
