[Nfb-krafters-korner] OT: Talking Thermostat

I have used both the VIP and the Nest.

At our old house I had the VIP and it was quite easy to use.

I could set a schedule of what times during each day the temperature was
warmer and when it was energy conserving. I think there was 3 settings per
day available. Something like Morning, Daytime and Evening.

When we moved here, we had the Nest installed. When it was first installed
the accessibility of the iPhone app was very poor. I wrote to the
manufacturer as I am sure many others did and they have improved the
accessibility measurably. It isn't 100percent, but, it is 80 percent
better. I am unable to change the "away" temperature levels, or set the
schedule, but, I am able to read the temperature, humidity, and change the
temperature for the presently home settings.

I am able to change it to Home or Away.

Like Annette I can call my husband and he can make the other changes
remotely while he is at work.

Another feature that is nice about the Nest, is it reverts to the Away
setting if there is no motion in the vicinity. We have the Away settings
set to conserve energy. When I walk in the room the Nest sees motion and
will revert to the Presently Home settings.

The Nest learns your habits too and will make a schedule based on that. For
example: my husband pushes up the heat each morning before he gets up so the
bathroom will warm up for his shower. Nest has learned when he was doing
that and now it does that automatically.
