If you do not know anything at all about crochet, from hook types and needle threading at the end. I will tell you this class is Not for you. In order to take this class you have to have the known skills of single crochet, double and the questions you are asking. This is an email class and not a class with a teacher to explain the basic simple things like you are asking. I would suggest you wither go to the websites that teach beginning crochet like All free crochet or many others and start by taking their classes because there is so much in basics you need to know before starting any pattern reading. You may also wait until someone on list repeats a very Beginning Crochet class. I have taught at 2 of these classes and Kathy has taught this also. Our classes lasted at least 3 to 4 weeks and a lot of practice. From teaching the method, hooks, yarn and stitches. Since there is not a class going on right now my suggestion is download basic from BARD or go to a crochet site and take their lessons. To answer your question and state some of the infor you asked. Question 2. It is suggested you use a tapestry needle at the end of the project or when you change colors or add yarn. Those ends should be threaded onto the needle and back stitch into the last few stitches of your work to lock in the loose ends before cutting the remaining thread. Question 1 is much more complex. Hooks are made from many sizes from D to R and in many types of materials, wood or bamboo, plastic, cermic and metal. Each pattern tells you the size of the hook you will be using. You make your choice on materials that feels best in your hand. Yes, wood can break, but it rarely happens and it is best to start will an inexpensive hook that you feel comfortable with to learn. This is only some of the things you must learn like how to wind your yarn to how you start your work and tension of yarn. Please take the time to listen to a book or take an internet class before attempting a pattern, it does take some time. You might find someone to work one on one with you to get you started.

I’m about to start learning how to Crochet and I was wondering if there is anything specific I need as a blind crocheter. For instance, a YouTube video mentioned metal hooks over plastic ones because they are harder to break or snap. Is there a certain size hook or certain thickness of yarn I need to find and buy? What about sewing the ends of projects? A tapestry needle was also spoken about. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
