Perhaps it shows we are an aging group when we go back to childhood thoughts. I remember always feeling like a failure because my paper and paint and coloring was never much good. moddling Clay was much more satisfying. Making and delivering May baskets in about the fourth grade was fun and successful. I actually had a craft class in fourth grade where we learned basket-making and a other things  using different materials than most of us had on hand. We made ash trays with potter's clay. They were glazed and baked and given for presents. I also learned to knit from a houseparent at the school for the blind in about the fourth or fifth grade. And I'm still doing that. My mother made a lot of our clothes, so I insisted she teach me to sew during the summer before my sixth grade year, and she did. My sister liked to play in mud, but neither mud nor gardening were as interesting to me, at least not before harvest. So I've been doing crafts for more than sixty years. Still lots to learn.
