Hi Nella and all,

Concerning latch hooking, I have made quite a few rugs that hang on my
walls. One site that has the yarn colors listed for easy ordering is

http://www.everythinglatchhook.com/
Each yarn color comes in its own package, so unlike with a kit, no sorting
is necessary. They also have canvas, hooks and binding. Unfortunately, I did
not see any of the longer yarn.

My thought here is that you could make your own pictures. Farm animals come
to mind. <Smile>

However, what I have always done is to purchase a kit, then send the
instructions that come with the kit to Braille Transcribing service to make
into a file for me. If you purchase a kit, you should know that some are
better than others in terms of the length of the strands and in the quality
of the yarn. I like the kits from Caron. When I check the cost last, it was
around $9 for the braille transcribing service to transcribe a latch hook
pattern. . The instructions will be written out row by row. For example, it
will say row 1. Five green, six blue, and so on for every row. The only
difficult thing is that you will need someone sighted to sort your yarn from
the kit. I placed my sorted yarn into zip lock bags to keep it from being
mixed up.
I enjoy building my pictures and trying to figure out where I am in the
picture.
Other places to purchase kits are Walmart.com, amazon.com and
knittingwarehouse.com

I taught a class for latch hooking a number of years ago. It was using a kit
to make a puppy lying in green grass with some pink flowers around him.
I don't believe anyone was able to finish the picture primarily because they
did not have someone to help them sort their yarn.

However, I can teach this class again if there is enough interest.

Have a great day!!
Cathy F
