Hi Bernice, anything is possible if you have the following things.
1. The desire to learn.
The proper teaching.
3. People who are willing and to teach you and the belief that you can do 
it.
Like I say, "my blindness might slow me down, but, it won't keep me down."

Hi Henry,

I took woodworking in college and loved the finishing of the wood.  My
teacher drove to the school for the blind, it was in 1974, with me to
findout how they taught blind people to use power tools.  He practically
jumped up and down with pride when their shop teacher wanted to take my hand
to show me the blade on the radio arm saw.  I asked if it was unplugged, and
he said that it was turned off.  I said I wasn't going to touch any blade of
any electrical tool without it being unplugged.  That was a hard and fast
rule in my teacher's shop.  It had nothing to do with blindness.  I made one
hand tool project and one large power tool project.  It was great fun.  My
guide dog came home after each class covered in saw dust or wood shavings.

they looked like.
Could you perhaps turn a corner of one of your barns into a studio of sorts?

Or, would it be too cold or drafty?

Cathy like you I miss using crayons and colored pencils.  I used to like to
draw with charcoals as well.  I have a good memory of colors, but sometimes
the way I picture things in my mind is not how it really looks. lol

I don't enjoy trying painting or drawing now since I can't see the finished
project.

I love things with lots of texture.  I used to make pottery, but haven't had
a place to do that for many years.  I loved feeling the clay take shape
under my hands.

I like making collages using different fabrics, papers, found objects and
shapes I make from oven baked clay.  I guess this is my way of drawing now.

Over the years I've done some sewing and look for fabrics with nice
textures.  In the last year I've gotten into loom knitting and that's what
lead me to this group.  I love feeling of all the kinds of yarn.

Someday I hope to learn to spin and weave.  I think I would also like to
learn some basic wood working.  I'm not sure where to go to learn that and
suspect that some people would not want to teach me.

After the chat on latch hooking I want to try it now.  I never wanted to do
it before because I wouldn't be able to see to follow the pattern.  For some
reason it never occurred to me to create my own pattern.  During the chat
using different lengths and types of yarn was mentioned and now I'm
inspired.

Hello Nella and all,

I must preface my answer by saying that what I miss most about having no
sight at all, is the ability to see colors. When I was young I used to love
to crayon, use oils and paints to make colorful abstract  designs.
Obviously, I can't do that anymore. But the colors and their hues are still
very clear in my mind. It is now my imagination I use to create my
paintings. I see the blue of the sky on a crisp fall day, the green of
spring grass, the yellow of a dandelion, the orange of a pumpkin, the red of
an apple, and the violet of the sky at sunset. My mind shapes the colors
into designs that  I really enjoy seeing in my mind's eye, taking shape.

Another thing I used to love to do was to read the yarn description on the
Lion Brand website and picture them in my mind, especially the variegations.
But now the color descriptions are no longer available so I do not have that
to enjoy anymore. I can remember when I was a teenager, having a variegated
rainbow yarn. so bright with every color of the rainbow. I can still see it
in my mind. Unfortunately I have only one friend who is able to adequately
describe colors to my satisfaction, but thank God for her!

So I purchase my yarn and hope that what is in my mind is actually what is
in my hands as I knit and crochet.

I would also like to say that I have found it impossible to adequately
describe what a color is like to a totally blind person. the vest I could do
was to tell my husband to imagine the scent of a lemon for yellow and so on.
But that does not at all describe the variety of shades and tones. in the
colors, which I find to be a sad thing, that he will never remember what
colors looked like. he lost his sight too early in life to remember seeing
anything but light.
