Wow, Dixie—what a blast from my past! I learned quilling in 10th grade, at 
church camp! It was really fun, and I don’t know why I let it drop... We 
would use a plastic toothpick to dip into glue, which we used to seal each 
little spool, to join the spools together on the paper, and to attach each 
to the paper. At the time, I was in my “Bette Midler/The Rose” phase, so I 
made a picture of a rose, complete with thorns and a long stem, which were 
also made of quilling paper—the stem, just folded in half and glued sideways 
onto the flower, the thorns, made by pinching either end of the 
spool/cylinder/coil so that it is no longer round, but pointy; then, we 
blued the whole thing to a piece of thin plywood; can’t remember whether we 
painted it or not, probably not, though, given the different colors of the 
paper). Nice description of the craft, for the uninitiated.
