Crock Pot Oatmeal with Spiced Apples
added by Joan Hunt
This is our favorite oatmeal it tastes like apple pie. The steel cut oats have a more chewy texture to them and are a little heartier than the rolled oats. Keeping you full longer so you won't snack between breakfast and lunch. Don't substitute rolled oats or quick cooking oats here in this recipe (they will turn to mush).
Cook time: 8 Hr Prep time: 5 Min Serves: 4 servings
Ingredients
1 c steel cut oats
4 c water
1/4 tsp salt
2 Tbsp buttery spread, softened
3 Tbsp dark brown sugar
1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 medium (1/4-inch-thick) sliced granny smith apple, peeled if desired
Directions
1. Spray Crock Pot insert with non-stick cooking spray.
2. Put all dry ingredients in Crock Pot and mix well.
3. Now add all remaining ingredients and mix well.
4. Cook on low overnight. (Oatmeal is done in about 4 hours but will stay hot in crock till morning).
5. All the spices will have floated to the top. Just stir well and spoon into bowls and enjoy!
