Sharon, there's a whole process for preparing the gourd. First, you dry it for at least a couple months. Then you rub it with steel wool to clean off the skin. Then you cut a hole and shake out the dry insides, and it's ready to use.

How do you make the gourd hollow? Do you scoop out the pulp? I remember seeing those bird houses at Christmas bazaars and shows, and if I remember right, the hole is on the largest part. I think it’s fun to have plants we can use for making things other than for food and beauty.
