I use a braille abacus. I keep the number of repeats I need to do at the top
and the number of the row I'm on at the bottom.

I'm with you Tracy - I have found that the abacus is versatile for keeping
up with many things as long as I can remember what I'm keeping up with, ha
ha. I have also used a stitch counter on my iPhone. The app is free. It is
called K&C Counter. You can decrease rows if you have to tink. You can name
projects allowing you to have more than 1 project at a time.

I use an abacus for row counting.  I can also use it to count in multiple
columns, for example, count rows and count repeats, such as "work this
10-row pattern 5 times".

I have little counters that I have, that are small manipulatives we use for
teaching math to kids. I also have used tiny food items. For example, if I
have 10 rows, I will put 10 raisin or Eminem's or whatever in a bowl. When I
finish one row, I take one raisin. As long as it's a healthy snack, you
shouldn't get you into trouble. LOL
