Linda,
The first question is what fiber did you use to make the afghan.
If it is acrylic then yes It can be machine washed and dried.
If though it is wool, then we need to know more, such is it a washable wool, or an untreated wool.

Okay, I am almost finish with the afghan I am çrocheting for friends. Should I wash it and if so, how do I keep it from getting too soft from the dryer.
