[NFB-Krafters-Korner] Afterthought heel

Hi Cindy.
That does sound much easier. I've gone on past that point now with my
socks, but, next time, maybe I'll give that a try.

Tracy,

I have heard of other "after thought" heels where you put in waste yarn
where the heel will be (two rows on the heel side only) and that gives you
live stitches to pick-up instead of having to cut the work. Like you, I
typically have my own sock pattern and then mostly decide on the fly what I
am going to do on the leg (I increase for my calves so it has to fit that
into the pattern).

I'm making socks from a pattern, which I hardly ever do. I usually make up
my own pattern.

The pattern uses the afterthought heel, but, after talking it over with the
gurus at the yarn store, I decided to do a different heel instead. The
afterthought heel sounds really hard. First, I'd have to run a needle
through already-knit stitches to pick them up. That's the really hard part,
picking up every stitch, and going in a straight line. Then, I'd have to
cut the knitting and put in the heel.

Has anyone made this kind of heel? Am I imagining it's harder than it
really is?

Tracy
