[NFB-Krafters-Korner] Sewing Machine Help Anyone?

Jaycie, I don't know how far you are from a store like Joann's or Shichaels. If you can manage to shop at slow times (perhaps early in the morning) you may be able to make friends with one of the people who works there for color suggestions. Most patterns will tell you how much yarn or fabric is recommended for each view included in the packet. My experience is that yarn stores are less busy than facbric stores, so clerks can give more individual attention to customers. However, yarn stores that specialize generally carry more expensive yarns, as well. You may be able to make a friend who would love to help if you take a class in knitting or crochet. Just some thoughts. There are also sewing classes at some stores. You have to educate the people there about blindness, very patiently and gently. I have been lucky. My mother sewed, and I know a lot of knitters. But I have been around a long time to meet people and have learned to search them out. Sometimes it works better than others. I shop with a woman occasionally now who is moderately good with colors, but not the rest of it, and I have to remind her regularly to wear her glasses. Store lighting can be misleading on colors for everyone, but that's the way it is.
