Lisa,
Here you go:
Starting with 1 loop on hook, yarn over *yo*, insert hook into chain,
yo and pull through. This gives you 3 loops on hook.  Yo and pull
through 2 loops, making 2 loops on hook. Yo and pull through 2 loops.
You are left with 1 loop and ready for the next stitch.

When you do each yo, make sure they are small enough to bring your
hook through.  Since you have a long loop hanging around, just pull on
the working yarn and make it smaller.
