[NFB-Krafters-Korner] Plastic canvas

Hello Henry,

I am not sure about braille differences. Since UEB (Unified English Braille) such differences are removed. UEB was implemented to make using braille on electronic devices a lot easier. Some of the crazy rules we used could not be written into a logical algorithm. An example, is the lower f at the beginning of a word. I still find it strange to read to written out in full. It is odd, lower d is maintained. There are quite a few UK braille users who start shouting about UEB at any opportunity. But my understanding is that it is a internationally agreed structure. Since the invention of the refreshable braille display the production of paper braille has been diminishing.. In the early days I did join our National Library. But I struggled with faint dots. Using an electronic device is so much easier for me. In addition the kindle app is quite easy to use and the braille implementation is quite good. This means it is so powerful to have access to books at the same time as the sighted world. With the new Orbit reader the price of refreshable displays are even more affordable. Here in the UK visually impaired young people are more or less given an Orbit Reader. The future is bright for braille.

Kind regards,

However, I am motivated in reading the small loom book and I am pleased that I have read braille every day for over a week. I am building up speed so determined to read the whole book. I just received a new focus 40 today and paired it with the iPhone, so shall use that to complete the book. If I do complete the book it will be the first book read by braille.
