Roman shades are like curtains and kind of like the same concept of blinds.  The shades are fabric, that when down, they  cover the window, it lays flat.  Then, it has two or three sections that are connecting the top all the way through to the bottom.  These sections are vertical  and allows you to raise the shade, like the blinds raise.  There is a string on the side and when the roman shades rise, the fabric gathers in the two or three sections, as they rise.  They are really pretty.  I have woven roman shades on my bedroom window, but would like some for the living room and Noah's bedroom/my office.
