You can use a number of things as a row counter. I use an abacus. Some use buttons, beads, dry beans, small pieces of candy, etc.
As for the stitch markers, it needs to be something that can be taken off of your stitches easily & placed on another stitch. I’m not sure if the ones you are describing will work. This pattern requires you to pick up stitches & using the stitch markers will make it easier to find your stitches & pick them up. Once you do this, you will need to remove the stitch marker & placed it on another stitch. That’s why I recommend movable stitch markers, coilless safety pens, bobby pins, twist ties, etc.
Hope this gives you some ideas.

Hi. what is a row counter and do I need to buy one?
Is there something I can use in place of one until I can get one.
A stitch marker is like a key ring small plastic circle that is easy
to slip on and off?
I will use something else until I can get these again.
Thanks.
