Cathy,

I have done this by working the purl row. At the end of the purl stay on the purl side, use the knitted cast-on method to add the needed stitches. Once all stitches are added, the left hand needle becomes the right hand needle so that the working yarn is coming from the right hand needle. Bring the other needle around so that the right side is on the outside. Now you can join for working in the round.

Subject: [NFB-Krafters-Korner] Knitting in the round but not from the beginning of the project

Hi all,

I have begun work on making a raglan sweater. The pattern begins at the back of the neck and stitches are addedfor the shoulders, and the right and left front. This section is knit flat. Then the center stitches are added all at the same time and the circle for the neck is closed.
I am ready to close the circle, but I’m not quite sure how to do it. I have only begun a circle from the beginning of a pattern.
Should I add the front stitches on the knit or purl row? Should I increase and immediately knit around? If so, how to increase and be certain the right side is on the outside.
I tried adding knit stitches to the end of a knit row.so then I should purl, but I couldn’t figure out how to connect the circle by beginning with a purl stitch. Hmm, perhaps I need a refresher on how to connect a circle. <sigh> I ask these questions because I tried this once already and had the sweater inside out. When I attempted to tink back, I dropped stitches, and could not get them back. So I’ve begun again. This time I will await advice.

Thanks for any help.

May God bless you.
 Cathy F
