Thanks Henry.  I'm going to toodle over to my local yarn store later and get
a package of the gullwing type and give them a try.  I don't think they're
expensive, so I'll try something new and support a local business at the
same time.  Win Win.

I like the ones that I believe are called "Gull wing" cable needles. They
have a v shape in the middle of them.
I will go to them first, and to the J shaped ones as a last resort.

You can laugh, but my favorite cable needle is a safety pin, one-inch to
two-inch. Easy to find if misplaced. They come in boxes of fifty or more.
And they don't fall out.
