Using stranded knitting for socks can lead to the problem of catching your toes in the strands. In Knit Soxx For Everyone <https://www.amazon.com/dp/0811739570?tag=html739-20> , Kerstin Balke has avoided this by only including patterns with short strands. I don't think this limitation has harmed her sock designs; in fact they are some of my favorite socks ever.

Shelley Husband uses crochet techniques in Granny Square Patchwork <https://www.amazon.com/dp/0645157317?tag=html739-20> that I haven't seen in other books. The techniques produce "seamless" crochet, which makes the beginnings and ends of rounds much neater than with the conventional methods that I've seen before.

Perhaps other authors don't know about these techniques or have decided not to include them in case they put readers off. After all, it takes effort to learn a new way of doing something, and not everyone wants to. Personally, I'm not put off and I love that Shelley decided to include them. I might never have heard of "seamless" crochet otherwise. I enjoyed learning how to do it, even though I did find it confusing at first. I've now made the best-looking square I've ever crocheted!
