[NFB-Krafters-Korner] Clay class questions

During the Wednesday Night Class, I tried asking some questions, but I don't
know if Renae had put us on mute as I know when I entered the room I told
me name and most said Hello to me.

I wanted to know more about using the molds. I had purchased 2 types of
molds. One was a hard plastic and the other was for use in the oven.

Now the one to be used in the oven had leaves, flower shapes which you could
make 12 to 15 different flowers. Has anyone used this type of mold? What
this mold seems to be made out of is a flexible type of thick mold type
material. I have used in the past molds similar to this to make melt & pour
soaps and going back a ways chocolate molds were similar to this.

A few questions I was hoping to get answers about were:
1 How full do you fill these molds? Do you smooth the flat back side of
these molds? What type of glue do you use to attach the pieces together?

2 If you need to smooth back side of these what tools do you use? Should
you smooth or clean edges before or after the baking?

They hard plastic molds:

1 Is there anything that should be used on the mold to make it easier to
get out of the mold?
2 How do you get it out of the mold?
3 How long should you leave it in the mold before baking?

Thank you.

Joyce

Hi Vicky.
I only know how to make 2 socks at a time using 2 circular needles. That's
pretty easy, if you keep a couple things firmly in mind.
Circ 1 holds the top side for each sock, and circ 2 holds the bottom for
each sock.
To knit, start with the opposite end of the circ where the yarn is not.
(That's the bit that's confusing at the beginning.) So, if you've just
finished knitting all the stitches on circ 1, the yarn is at the end of circ
1 and you're ready to start knitting the stitches on circ 2. Grab the end
of circ 2 that's away from where you're going to knit, same as you would
when doing ordinary circular knitting. Then just knit all the stitches on
circ 2.
I stop every few rounds to untwist my 2 balls of yarn, or as often as
necessary to keep them from getting too bad.
When I switch from one circ to the other, I take extra care to snug up the
stitch so there doesn't get to be a ladder there.

I think making 2 socks at a time would be very confusing using magic loop.

Hi Tracy,

I have tried making socks two at a time only once. I got so frustrated that
I just made them one at a time. I really would like to learn to do this so
my question is any suggestions on how to keep the two balls of yarn from
getting hopelessly tangled up? I tried moving them when I switched sides.
I was using magic loop since I don't know as of yet how to use two circulars
effectively.

Vickie
