If you're knitting in the round, I think you'd be fine with an even number
of stitches.  And, while it could be good to keep track of whether you're on
an odd row or an even, I think it's pretty easy to tell if the stitch you're
going to deal with is a slip or a knit.  They feel a little different.
I didn't know that was how to double-knit.  Slip-stitch colorwork patterns
are very popular now.  When you start out, the slip stitch is one color and
the knit is another.  It makes a lovely woven-type pattern.  I have a nice
cowl pattern using slip-stitch colorwork.  Maybe someday I'll teach a class
about it.

My Mom showed me that if you knit a scarf k1 slip 1 going one direction, and
slipping the knits and knitting the slipped stitches going back across, that
you would come out with a double thick knitted scarf. I think that is
correct.

If I want to make a sleeve on a circular needle doing this, I think I would
have to do an odd number of stitches to get a double thickness.

Does anybody know what I'm talking about, and if I would have to do an odd
number of stitches. Alternatively, I could do  an even number with a stitch
marker at the beginning of the round. Then I would have to keep track of
whether I am on odd row or even row.

Anybody know?
