Thanks Yolanda. I thought that might be the trick.  
I tried poking it with a stylus, but that didn't work.
Yes Henry, the glue has a cap.

I'm finally gluing my macramé belt.  The glue didn't get onto the thing
under the belt, but it got on some strings I wasn't meaning for it to get.
I did my best to wipe them off.

Do you have a Stylus, a Push Pin, paper clip or size 1 Double Pointed  metal
Knitting needle? All of these would work to poke a hole in the tip of the
tube. Just be careful not to stab yourself. I have used all of these things
to poke  a hole in a tube of glue etc. 
What are you gluing? Glue is always messy. I glue whatever I am making over
a paper plate.

I bought a tube of Aleene's fabric glue.  I can't figure out how to open the
tip, so I took off the lid and stuck my finger to get a little glue to smear
on what I wanted to glue.  It was a bit messy, but gluing is always messy
for me, which is why I try to avoid it. 
I would welcome tips.  And how am I supposed to open the tip of the tube?
Cut it off, like you do with a tube of caulk?
