[NFB-Krafters-Korner] my first mittens

Sorry to have missed so much fun of late, but will weigh in here to say that
when my kids were little, I did lots of mittens, and connected them by doing
a crochet chain, starting it at the coff of one mitten, and tying it off at
the other. You need to make sure to make it long enough to go through both
sleeves and across the back, but it's great for little kids to have the
mittens just hanging there at the sleeves. You could probably do the same
thing with an I chord.

Yes that's correct in that you are to tie the mittens together so they don't
get separated. They request no safety pins, because they have to remove
them. I'm not sure about the cord, I just emailed Wendy to find out the
answer and will let you know.

Did you know a donated hand made item gives you warmth from the inside and
travels out and the receiver gets warmth from the out side and it travels
within them.

Also, Shellie told us to use a piece of yarn to thread through the mittens
and tie a bow, to keep them together.
I think I mentioned the i-chord and they did not want it. Lets see what
Shellie says!

I am following the pattern we were given, and I have decided to pull the
mitten out and use a strait knit 1 pearl 1 rib instead of the knit 3 pearl
1. It doesn't seem stretchy enough and I chose the middle size and it seems
too wide.

I had quite a time getting the first couple of rows done, even though I
understand how to do it. I am using 2 small circular needles instead of 4
double pointed needles.

Has anybody thought to make a chain stitch cord going from one mitten to the
other, so the child can't loose a mitten? I want to do that or buy some of
those clips that a child can attach the mitten to the sleeve of the coat.
Kids loose lots of things as we all know.

Bernice
