Great ideas. More info is always a plus.
I figure the smaller beads are the hardest to distinguish, so, this tool will be helpful. My son-in-law pointed out those inch and 1/2 inch beads also where I can use a ruler.

i did some looking into this tool. the sizes go by the half millimeter. you can get pretty close i would imagine but you would need to count the number of holes. this tool is printed as far as my friend who looked at it said. i think that 6 and 5 mm are pretty close and if this goes by the half millimeter, you will have 4 holes which are pretty close. also it only goes up to 11mm and many bead projects call for larger beads.
here is how i do my bead sizing....
i have one of each size bead i typically use in a particular shape lets just say faceted round. so i would put 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, etc all the way up to the largest bead i have which is usually around 25mm or 1 inch.
i put these on a piece of wire and turn the ends under. this way i can measure loose beadup gainst t. the beads are all even number sizes so i know not to expect 5mm near the 6mm i compare bead sizes this way.
also you could use jump rings where you know the sizes and compare them if that works for you.
here are a few tips when measuring beads with a tactile ruler.
cm can be difficult to measure so mm is going to be even harder.
remember
25mm is one inch
18mm is 3/4 inches
12 mm is half an inch
8mm is 1/3 inch
6mm is 1/4 inches
4 mm is 1/6 inches

3mm is 1/8 inch
in case that is helpful to anyone.

of course the more different the shape , it could make it difficult to measure.
when i purchase my beads, i put them in these cool little containers i got from hobby lobby that are round and can be stacked. they stack into each other so they are like a continuous tube with different compartments. i can then label the different compartments with the sizes.
then all the same color are in the same column of containers which makes up the tube but all sizes are accounted for. i will see if i ca finda link o thse ontainers.
of course there are tons of ways to organize by size. this is just one way i have done it.
