The Disabled Student Services is a place on campus where students can go to see if
they have a learning disability, or take tests and exams if they do not feel comfortable
taking them in class due to a learning disability. It can be found in the Woodlawn
building located right next to Sindecuse Health Services.
For more than two decades, Beth denHartigh has been the director for the entire Disable
Student Services organization, and according to fellow employees, has been an amazing
coworker and a great friend. On August 31, Mrs. denHartigh retired from her 35-1/2
years here at Western Michigan University.
"She has been wonderful to work with," said Dorothy Fancher, a coworker and Assistant
Director for Disabled Student Services. "She has been working for Disabled Student
Services most of the time she has been employed at Western but she also has worked
with the community and is a member for the Michigan Association on Higher Education
and Disabilities."
Mrs. denHartigh's retirement party is being held on campus at the Disabled Student
Services building on Friday, September 24 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Anyone is welcome
to come in and meet the staff, and to congratulate Mrs. denHartigh.
