I am pasting below and attaching the minutes from our October 20 chapter meeting.  Please make sure you read through them as convention is coming up fast and there is still work to be done.  Let me know if there are any revisions to be made.

NFB of Kalamazoo Chapter Meeting Minutes

October 20, 2011

Role call: Jhon Searles, Rachel Bishop, Gabe Guzman, Matt McCubbin, Leanne Merren and JJ Meddaugh were present.

Agenda was red and approved

Minutes were approved as emailed

Treasurer's report: Matt shared that we now have a total of $217.98 in our account at PNC Bank.  This includes the dues that have been collected so far.  Tyler is currently holding $5 from Rachel.

Old business

Michigan Vision Expo update: JJ reported that Gabe, Tim, Jackie and Matt were all there.  He felt it went very well.  Gabe also shared that several new people asked about meetings and the NFB.  JJ said he would try to get the list of people, especially local folks to invite them to convention and meetings.  Leanne said it would be nice to have money to help people attend the convention.  Matt said people can stop in without registering as well.

Convention updates: Social event is scheduled from 8-11 PM.  JJ said we probably won't get many people until around 9:00.  JJ shared that Mike Ellis from Lansing said that he will donate $300 toward hors d'oeuvres.  Rachel said we need to provide thank-you notes.  Suggestions of hors d'oeuvres were cheese and crackers, wings, egg rolls and fruit.  Hotel does not have a license for selling alcohol at this time.  The group decided that Family Feud wouldn't allow people to come and go as they please, so an entertainment night would work out better.  Games could be provided at tables for those who want to play.  A game show could be included as part of the show with volunteers.  $5 suggested donation will be collected.  JJ will MC.  Matt, Rachel and Jhon will plan the event.

Schedule: Friday night will be division meetings such as students and parents.  JJ shared that an extra $5 at the student meeting will go toward a pizza lunch on Saturday.  General session will be morning and afternoon on Saturday, with banquet on Saturday night.  State board meeting is on Sunday.

JJ will take care of a raffle and head up the collection of door prizes.

Rachel and Leanne will help with child care.  Leanne shared that Nikki said she will help if she is there.

Hotel: Clarion Hotel  

3600 E. Cork, Kalamazoo, MI 49001 (269) 385-3922

Bus: #8 Egleston bus is the one that will get people to the Clarion hotel.  Leaves at quarter to the hour from down town.  Drops off in front of the hotel on the outbound route.  Walk straight back from the stop, through the parking lot to the building then go left till you find the door on your right hand side.

New Business

Fund raising: Jhon said he will head up fund raising efforts.  Question was raised about the Hardings keychain cards.  Tim was thought to have been working on that.  Nikki said we can still set up a Walmart fund raiser for the spring.  Jhon will look up sponsors to get donations.

List serve: Leanne shared that there is information for how to subscribe on the messages on which new members were co-copied.  The website is http://nfbnet.org/mailman/listinfo
