Here is an example of what I consider a wonderful way to work with Lions for
NFB chapters.
Today the Treasure Valley Chapter of the NFB of Idaho held its Cycle for
Independence, a bike-a-thon for the blind. It is a fundraiser and great
public relations. The Boise Vista Lions own a large tent which they use for
their Christmas tree sale in December. They put it up and lend it to us
with no charge for this biker ride. This protects many workers from the
sun.
The Boise Capital Lions (my club) prepares and serves lunch.

We had about 450 riders, and I hope we will raise close to ten thousand
dollarrs. We had eleven members riding the back of tandem bikes, and
virtually all chapter memberss work or ride. Still, it takes more help than
us. Hams help with communications, and we have a ski patrol group for first
aid. We recruit volunteers from other places as well. But the Lions are
pleased to be a part of it. By participating this way they do indeed serve,
but they are learning about blindness, because we run the show, and they
brag on us for doing it well. win/win! yes?
