[Nfb-lions] Introduction

Here it is again, so sorry it didn't come through.


Good morning all:

I was very happy to hear that the NFB has a Lions Division and talk list on 
the NFBnet.org

My name is Cheryl Echevarria, I also live in NY near Albert J. Rizzi, in 
fact, we will be working together in the future.

Currently, I hold the office of Treasurer, Greater Long Island Chapter of 
the National Federation of the Blind.

I had lost my vision in 2001 from diabetes and Kidney Failure, but I have 
since become very independent again, from the help of my mentors with the 
National Federation of the Blind, and the help of my very good friend who 
have me one of his kidney's in 2005, so I can get my life back.

In 2007, I received my first Guide Dog from the Guide Dog Foundation of 
Smithtown, here in NY.   That is why I want to help with fundraising for the 
wonderful organization to help more people like myself get dogs and 
assistance.

I am also a member of NAGDU, DAN, and I also am the Moderator of the Blind 
Cooks List.  Yes, I wear many hats but at the same time am not as active in 
some divisions that I have in the past.

I have also become an entrepreneur, by running my own travel agency 
www.Echevarriatravel.com, and one of the things I can do with this is to 
educate the blind on how to enjoy a vacation and to travel, as well as 
educating the sighted, especially in the travel industry, which seems no one 
wants to touch, to help the blind enjoy there lives and go on vacations and 
to travel independently

So I hope that you take me up on my offer. I am trying to make plans to come 
to the Convention in Dallas, but unfortunately the funds are not there at 
this time to do this.

I will be listening in the wings here and comment from time to time, but let 
me know how I can help.
