Invite them to an NFB meeting. 
Lions are just like any other sighted people, they were knighted by Helen Keller to oversee the Blind and the Deaf, so they still treat us like invalids. You tell them that you can be there at 6:30 or 7 or whenever you can, you just need very descriptive directions to do things.
Also let them know what blind people can do. They have had blind Presidents of their clubs and District Governors. There has also be Governors like David Paterson, and Members in the House of Lords in the UK Blind, and other people, etc.
Again, you will find people who don't get it. Lions or not.
