[Nfb-lions] Possible Suggestion About Increasing Lion Magazine on NFB Newsline

FYI I belong to the local district where Albert belongs and I used to be a member of that chapter that does that dance every year. I don't go anymore because that chapter treats blond people like blind people and not like a person that is why I changed chapters to my local one and our current district governor is a member of our chapter. YOU don't have to mail anything in just email or call the person or chapter. We had changed the response to the dance over 5 years ago when i was with said chapter. I am not that involved with lions because of their attitude towards the blind even though they always seem to pat me on head and say good blind person.
Call Gary Feurer at the CI chapter or let district governor Manny Vidal of this issue

Dave, we agree. Just had a bit of a discussion with a local Lions Club wanting me to attend a dance for blind people, but the only way to RSVP is to print out a document, fill it out long hand, label an envelope long hand, or type it out, slap on a stamp and send it off snail mail. What a waste of trees, and hardly 21st century or independently empowering in my opinion.

I suspect we don't disagree as much as you may think.  I agree that things move on, and people need to adapt. I was bothered by the tone of your message, that seemed to blame those who don't have computers, you talking about them "refusing"
to use a computer. My point was that it may be more complex.

And ... whether or not the Lions would be covered by the ADA, I don't know.  It comes down to whether or not they are a covered entity.  Nevertheless, it seems to me that because they supposedly exist to help blind people, they have a hightened obligation to make themselves as accessible as possible to as many people as possible.

However, having spoken to hundreds of Lions Clubs in my career, in general I have found them to be pretty divorced from blind people and our real needs.  There are exceptions, of course, where individuals have gotten involved and changed their clubs, regions etc., but on the whole, most of them want to buy some glasses, give them away, get their pictures in the paper and feel good.

Sorry, I am getting cynical, and far afield here.  The lions do lots of good and I am all for them!
