This sounds great. Are you ready to help them meet the W3C guidelines to a Class AA (double A?

I would certainly recommend that those involved in the website development attend a Webaim seminar that is currently conducted online and there website is webaim.org

Hello, All,

I got a gracious note back from Maureen Stenson with LCI, and she included a E-Learning contact for those needing E-Learning assistance.

See below.

Lion Judy,

It was great to talk to you yesterday and thank you for forwarding the information on Microsoft Quick Assist. I will certainly be in touch as our accessibility development plans for the website evolve.

As we discussed, I would put you in touch with an eLearning staff member. I have included my colleague Cynthia Bianchi on this email. Cynthia is the manager of our eLearning department and can help you with any questions you may have regarding the learning platform.

Thank you again for conversation yesterday and for volunteering to be a beta tester for our website accessibility. We’ll be in touch.

Have a great day,

Maureen

Hello, Lion Maureen,

I am copying Lions Dan Hervey and KOTB Chair Andy Arvidson on this correspondence, as well as the NFB-Lions group moderator, Milton Ota.

This e-mail is to thank you for our call today, and for documenting the call.

I basically explained the difficulty in getting web site access needs addressed through LCI, as there is really no person in place, such as an Accessibility Coordinator, who has the authority and ability to address these needs, as well-intentioned as everyone seems to be.

You stated I am coming to the correct department by speaking with you, and explained the relationship the marketing department has with branding and web development.

I recounted the need for a new member application form that should be screen reader fillable with the appropriate edit fields screen readers can recognize, as my husband and I discovered we could not fill out our own new member application forms. I also explained that images or image text is not recognizable by any screen reading software program, and related various access issues experienced by myself and other blind lions.

Recently, on the NFB-Lions listserv, accessibility problems by blind persons with the E-Learning tool have been experienced across the country, and referenced the e-mail I forwarded you from Past Secretary Jennifer Gass, who had attempted resolution through Bernadette Wasniak.

You stated that this tool is from a separate vendor, and that you will provide a good accessibility contact from that vendor.

I also mentioned tools I recently learned about that can help tech support either remote into a computer, with permission, or full screen share with Zoom for guidance.

Microsoft Windows 10 has a built-in tool called Quick Assist that can be reached by the shortcut Windows-Ctrl-Q. The person giving the assistance needs to have a Microsoft account, and be logged in, and can press the button to assist another person from the Quick Assist window. The window then generates an automatic code the assistant gives the person needing help. The person is advised to close out any private window on the PC, that their PC is being shared, and that they may disconnect at any time.

Next steps. you will be in touch with E-Learning personnel to verify site access issues, and hopefully develop a contact with that vendor, then e-mail me back.

I will also follow up with you at a later date.

Thanks once again for the delightful visit, and enjoy your day.
