Advocacy in Action: Digital Inaccessibility Reporting Guide

This document serves as a follow-up guide for members of the National
Federation of the Blind of New Mexico (NFBNM) who wish to document their
experiences with digital accessibility barriers. We appreciate those who
attended the support meeting on Saturday, May 23, 2026. We were happy to
answer your questions and look forward to continuing support. You are
welcome to schedule appointments with individuals who can help you prepare
and send your story to the National Federation of the Blind (NFB). Contact
methods are available at the end of this message. Appointments can be
scheduled through Thursday, May 28, so that we can work together to meet
the deadline for story submission on Friday, May 29.

These first-hand accounts are vital to ensuring that the recently finalized
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II regulations are effectively
implemented and that government agencies remain accountable to
accessibility standards.
Guidance for Story Collection

To support national advocacy goals, stories should focus specifically on
barriers encountered while conducting business with state or local
government entities. Effective accounts should highlight how these barriers
prevent equal access to information or services.
Key Areas of Focus

When documenting your experience, consider the following digital
environments:

   -

Government Websites & Mobile Apps: Challenges navigating official state
agency platforms or using mobile applications designed for public services.
   -

Public Program Barriers: Inaccessibility when attempting to engage with
public programs, services, or scheduled activities.
   -

Critical Public Information: Difficulty accessing online voting
information, health and safety protocols, or official tax and legal
   documents.
   -

Forms & Interactive Tools: Issues with online government forms,
including lack of proper labeling, keyboard navigation, or clear error
   notifications.
   -

Public Infrastructure Software: Digital barriers encountered in public
transit software or within educational institution platforms.

Technical Context for Advocacy

Your stories help hold agencies accountable to established technical
standards, specifically the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1
Level AA. Digital accessibility is a cornerstone of inclusivity, privacy
and security; and documenting failures—such as poor color contrast or lack
of text alternatives for images—demonstrates the real-world impact of
non-compliance.
Individualized Support and Appointments

If you were unable to attend the support meeting on Saturday, May 23, 2026
or require additional help refining your story, individual assistance is
available by appointment through Thursday, May 28, 2026.
