Re: . Governor Paterson, Saturday Night Live Segment.
Are we the blind not at major fault, by not explaining what blindness truly
is??? NFB broadcasts that we are better than the seeing, that we are
empowered, that some of us can drive a car for 10 years, that our young
people can drive down 10,000 feet high Haleakala with a bicycle and go down
in a boat the dangerous rapids in Colorado. Some of our leaders come to work
with guide dog and wheelchair but dance around all day without a guide
stick. Yet we are against advocating for free inter-net access for our home
bound blind, even though our FCC Chairman Kevin Martin advocates high speed
Internet access for us. Our organizations accept 'VISION IMPAIRED' without
certification, only because a fly got into their eyes. We, the voice of the
blind show our total Independence without ANY NEED, so why do our
organizations always ask for donations from us blind??? Where does the money
go, if there is no need. Look at our senior net, where you cannot even find
a friend. So let us shape up and only accept the legally medically certified
blind. I am grateful for the little vision I have left. Why do the
blind have to be blindfolded to learn computers or anything else from
uncertified teachers in the "NEW VISION PROGRAM"??? No wonder that the
commedians make fun of us. Our 50,000 member NFB, as Voice of
the Blind, should advocate for our needs and not for large corporations that
make big profits on us. With free High Speed inter-net access we can learn
faster than in our so awfully failing blind education programs. Just test
the many "certified graduates". Most blind can hear and most deaf can see,
only 10% of ALL blind have ever total vision loss and use Braille only to
communicate with other Braille rs to isolate themselves from the public.
Only about 10% of the deaf use ASL and shut out the 90% elderly hard of
hearing. Please correct me if I am wrong, with truly credible statistics.
I shall answer any Email, pinkhawaii at gmail.com
