**Secretary report from last month:

National Federation OF THE BLIND OF NEBRASKA SENIOR DIVISION MEETING MINUTES

Monday, December 11, 2017

The NFBN Senior Division met by telephone conference on Monday, December 11,
2017. President Robert Newman called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM CST.
Members present were: President Robert Newman, Vice President Barbara Loos,
Secretary Linda Mentink, Treasurer Cheryl Livingston, Board Member Nancy
Oltman, Gina Finnell, Brad Loos, and Gerri Whitlow. Guests present were:
Nancy Coffman, Melvin Forster, Della Johnston, Michael Jones, and Ryan
Osentowski.

Gina recited the NFB Pledge. Gerri will recite it next month.

Ryan Osentowski, Station Manager, talked to us about the Nebraska Radio
Talking Book Service. It was created in 1974, as an option for blind people
to get their newspapers and magazines read. Now it is mostly used by
seniors. They are experimenting with podcasting. In addition to receivers,
the service is available on the internet. Ryan is hoping to have more
programs relating to blindness, and some ideas such as interviews were
suggested. There are four staff and a board of directors.

Robert talked to us (the members) about offering to create a program to air
on RTBS. We as the NFBN Senior Division would have a lot to offer the 4,500
listenership of RTBS; keeping in mind, the majority of these people are
reported to be seniors who are experiencing blindness.

Ryan and Robert talked about what that program could look like. Ryan told us
that it would More than likely be a one hour, weekly program.

Robert will be calling the members individually to talk over the idea.

OLD BUSINESS. Linda read the November meeting minutes. Barbara moved, Cheryl
seconded, that the minutes be approved as read. The motion carried.

Cheryl read the Treasurer's report as follows:

Total expenses $ 29.15

Respectfully submitted,

Cheryl Livingston, Treasurer

Notes:

Jerilyn Whitlow, Robert Riley, Steve Senteney & Becky McCullough have paid
dues. The dues will be deposited and reported next month.

Linda moved, Nancy seconded, that we accept the Treasurer's report. The
motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS. Robert will track down the boss of the Independent Living
Center in Scotts Bluff as a possible guest speaker. He'd like to know what
they're doing and see if we can help them with literature or anything. Scott
Schultz, Executive Director of the Talking Book Service, was also suggested.

BRAGS AND DRAGS. Barbara said that they got Roku, but they cannot access
some of the audio description videos on Cable.

Nancy Oltman said that the At Large chapter has started. They meet on the
second Saturday of the month at 1:00. Information about this should be
posted to our affiliate membership listserv. Nancy will get it to Robert to
post to the senior listserv.

Ryan said that, after an 8-day losing streak, his Broncos finally won
yesterday.

Linda mentioned that the Government is cutting funds, meaning that the state
of Nebraska will not be getting as much money. Beginning January 2, the
Commission will only have main office landlines. All counselors will be
using cell phones.

Linda moved that the meeting be adjourned. We adjourned at 8:30.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda Mentink, Secretary
