NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND OF NEBRASKA SENIOR DIVISION Meeting MINUTES

Monday, April 9, 2018

The NFBN Senior Division met by telephone conference on Monday, April 9,
2018. President Robert Newman called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM CDT.
Members present were: President Robert Newman, Vice President Barbara Loos,
Secretary Linda Mentink, Treasurer Cheryl Livingston, Board Member Nancy
Oltman, Chris Boone, Robert Burns, Gina Finnell, Walt Hively, Brad Loos,
Becky McCullough, and Steve Senteney. Guests present were: Della Johnston
and Michael Jones from Nebraska and Dianne Hemphill from Kansas.

Chris recited the NFB Pledge. Linda will recite it next month.

Division member, Robert Burns, a blind lawyer and financial planner, talked
to us about several of the important legal and financial considerations that
a person who is nearing retirement and/or is into that stage in life should
have in place, and why. He is and has been an active member of both the
Omaha Chapter, and our affiliate for decades. He answered many of our
questions.

Robert asked Dianne Hemphill to tell us about the Kansas Senior Division
call the following night at 7:00. She was on the national call last month,
at which they discussed downsizing and moving. The Kansas division will
continue that discussion, and focus on the emotional aspects of determining
or deciding to downsize and move. Dianne McGeorge will be on the call.

Linda read the March meeting minutes. Cheryl asked about the ending balance
of her report, which differed from what she has as the beginning balance for
this month. Linda copies and pastes Cheryl's reports into the minutes.
Cheryl will look through and fix them, and Linda will fix them in the
minutes. Chris moved, Nancy seconded, that we approve the Secretary's Report
as read for now. The motion carried.

Cheryl read the Treasurer's Report as follows:

Treasurer's Report-Senior Division

April 9, 2018

Beginning Balance Mar 12, 2018 $1001.82

Correction to account after reconciling

Bank statements with check register $ 5.00

Corrected bank balance $1006.82

Expenses

PAC plan for $ 15.00

Total expenses $ 15.00

Deposits

None

Ending Balance March 12 $991.82

Respectfully submitted,

Cheryl Livingston, Treasurer

Chris moved, Linda seconded, that we accept the Treasurer's Report. The
motion carried.

Robert reported that he sent out three of the four NLS cartridges to Steve,
Gina and Walt. He will use them until they disappear, which hopefully won't
happen. He was given three used thumb drives, so he can send out seven right
now.

Robert also reported that he has not been able to put in much time on the
RTBS project, because there are other things he needs to be spending his
efforts on right now until they're cleared out. Even if what he has does not
go to RTBS, it belongs to us, and can be put on our website. We can let
people know that it's there.

The state Walk for Independence will be Saturday, May 19, in Omaha. We will
talk about it at our nex meeting. Robert encouraged us to pledge to someone
if we are not able to walk ourselves, and suggested that our division make a
pledge.

Robert asked if anyone had ideas for speakers. Barbara suggested that he see
if either Dianne McGeorge, Art Schreiber or Mary Willows would talk to us
about downsizing and moving. Nancy mentioned that the Krafters Division has
started a new list about cooking with small appliances. That would be a good
topic for down the road. Robert will look on the page and find out who the
list moderator is.

BRAGS AND DRAGS. Barbara said that Friday she is going to the Nebraska
Center for the Education of Children Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired to
be on a panel with a couple other people discussing technobogy and helping
folks be independent. What she is hoping for is to also talk a little about
blind folks mentoring kids at the school or working with those who work with
the kids so that they will use blindness-ready ways of accessing things. We
need interaction with those folks.

On the 19th, there will be another meeting of the statewide Mobility
Management Committee. They are starting to work on putting different county
entities together into regions.

Linda reported that her dog Cassie is getting better. She is taking two
acupuncture treatments a month, and is on a pill to help with pain
management and inflamation.

Linda moved, Nancy and Gina seconded, that we adjourn, which we did at 8:44
PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda Mentink, Secretary
