[nfb-talk] Here We Go Again

Ray,

I was squarely on your corner until you pulled out the LCB card. Let's face
it, the centers can't accommodate the growing population of blind
individuals. While we should see these centers as excellent resources to
advance one's independence, we should not see them as a prerequisite to
independence. I'd like to see the Center staff go out and educate private
shops on the method of teaching woodwork to blind people rather than
function as isolated beacons of hope for the masses. And, people should
have the option to receive this training while living in their own
communities versus stopping one's progress for nine months to learn skills
deemed by others to be important. This, I think, is a big part of this
concept of informed choice.

Regards,

Joe

some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all."--Sam Ewing
