I don't know about most situations but I was one of those rlf babies born in 
the early 50's and not only did the oxygen given to me to preserve life 
cause both retinas to detach but it also destroyed the optic nerve so a chip 
wouldn't do any good for my situation There is also the risk of the body 
rejecting it and there are too many risks associated with surgery that close 
to the brain.
