[nfb-talk] FW: 112 - Very Important About Unmarked Police

Dear Joshua:

I won't presume to speak for Dave Andrews as he administers this list, not I. However, since this issue (off-topic posts) comes up from time to time, I ask you to stand back and consider your post below:

There are blind women on this list and many other lists. Blind persons (men and women both) are part of society. So it could be argued that *any* post is relevant to this or any other list. Therefore, no post is off-topic. This is patently ridiculous, however, as there would then be no reason for any list to specialize in discussion of particular subject matter. Yet it is perfectly acceptable, nay desirable, Netiquette to have lists keep their discussion to particular topics. NFB-Talk, Music-Talk and all other NFB lists are no exception. If posts on safety, glurge topics such as inspiring Christmas stories and so on, were allowed, the list would become overwhelming and people (including me) would leave in droves.

Moreover, a good bit of the time, such posts prove to be either false or greatly exaggerated or only partially true. It's a good idea to check with TruthOrFiction, Snopes, UrbanLegends or other such sites before crediting, let alone reposting, such material.

Peace!

Mike Freeman
