[nfb-talk] the new canes

Dear All,

I have used every type of cane they make , at some time or another.
I like and use the telescoping canes the best and have several of them.
I have only had a problem with them collapsing when I did not do the opening
properly and even then the cane was still useful until I could get to a spot
where I could lock it open.
I have used both fiberglass and carbon fiber and like the carbon fiber the
best as there is no cane that is lighter in weight and the carbon fiber is
more rigid than the fiberglass model.
I use a big "D" ring on the end of the handle, which lets me put it away
quickly and with one hand when I am carrying something and need to get my
keys out.
The "D" ring lets me clip it on one of my belt loops and frees up my hands.
I also know where my cane is all of the time and never get up and walk off
without it on my side.
Even now that I use a guide dog, named Jack, I still carry my cane along,
hanging on my belt loop. I don't take my dog everywhere all of the time and
often let him sleep under my desk when I go to the restroom or take some
papers to another office.
The telescoping canes are the lightest and most compact canes there are and
is what I will continue to carry for years.

David Evans, NFBF and GD Jack.
