It can be important and worth learning, certainly, especially these days 
when there is a very strong need for people in our economy who have a strong 
area of intelligence in math and science.  But I sure hated it when I had to 
learn it in high school.  It's kind of interesting because I loved science 
and did very well in science, not so in algebra.
