Well, you have had some good ideas here.

Besides a human being you can scan a check using an app, or scanner, and do OCR. This may work, but there is little tolerance for error so personally I would be reluctant to rely on a computer -- and if the check is hand-written, this could be a problem. As to writing a check, bill pay is a good idea. Some accounting programs allow you to print on special checks -- this may be your best solution. In the past, some of us have filled out checks on manual typewriters. You can learn how many lines and spaces to move the carriage, to fill out properly.

You could also talk to your new Indiana President. I believe he works in financial services -- and may have some ideas too.

Dave

p.s. Talk to your Chapter President and have her/him ask on the chapter-presidents list.

Dave

Subject: [NFB-Talk] Dealing with Checks

Greetings to all.

I am writing to seek advice about dealing with checks, both writing and reading them, as a blind person. Up until now, I have avoided any contact with them like the proverbial plague, but, now, my new position within my NFB affiliate will inevitably bring me into contact with the dreaded things! :)

Anyway, so, I would especially be interested in other Treasurers’ experiences dealing with this issue as well as other advice in general from them.

Thanking folks in advance,

—
