Hello Everyone.

I am excited to announce that beginning Wednesday June 7th 2017, Fusion
Academy of Martial Arts will begin offering classes in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
for the blind community. Classes will be offered on Wednesdays from 6-7 pm
and on Fridays, from 5:30pm – 6:30 pm. Classes will be held at Fusion
Academy of Martial Arts located at 615 East Simpson Avenue in Salt Lake
City. The tuition for these classes is $50 per month, with an initial
payment of $25. This initial cost includes a Fusion Academy
performance-wear t-shirt, which will be the uniform worn for the classes.

As many of you heard from my presentation at the NFB of Utah State
Convention, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a self-defense system based on using
technique and leverage in order for a smaller individual to defend
themselves against a larger attacker. It is also based on maximizing
contact with an attacker, making it is tailor-made for us as blind
individuals. It has the added benefits of increasing ones physical fitness
and building ones self-confidence. For those of you who heard my story
at the convention’s general session, I can personally say that my training
in jiu-jitsu was a vital component to my recovery and adjustment to life
as a blind individual. I wish to now share the benefits I continue to
experience with the blind community.

To get to the Academy: Fusion Academy is conveniently located near the 700
East station of the UTA TRAX S-line. After exiting the train, turn left
and walk west along-side the tracks (should be on your left) until you
reach the next street (600 east). Turn left and cross the tracks. Keep
following the sidewalk (it zig-zags slightly) until just before the
sidewalk ends. The street ahead of you is Simpson Avenue. There will be a
small parking lot on your left. Turn left and walk through the parking
lot, staying close to Simpson Avenue. There is a small sidewalk along
Simpson Avenue that will lead you to the Academy door (it will be on your
left).
