Post from Ken Duke, current Salt Lake Chapter President of the National Federation of the Blind of Utah.
“I’m a proud member of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB), an organization that has profoundly shaped my journey over the past 21 years. Through my involvement, I’ve come to understand what it truly means to live confidently and independently as a blind person. Despite the challenges, I’ve achieved much: I’m a marathon runner, a devoted husband, a father of five, and a software engineer with over 30 years of experience. I’ve also held multiple leadership roles within the NFB of Utah , each one deepening my appreciation for its impact on my personal and professional growth.
On December 7, I’ll be running my 65th marathon at the California International Marathon (CIM)—a milestone that reflects not just endurance, but a commitment to living the life I want. With every step, I strive to embody the NFB’s mission: to move forward, to lead, and to inspire. I’d also like to acknowledge and thank my Achilles Utah guides who have helped make this possible for me.
I’ve joined Team NFB for this year’s CIM, and together with my fellow runners, we’re raising funds to support the NFB’s vital work—advancing opportunities and independence for all blind people. My personal fundraising goal is $1,500. If you’d like to support our team and contribute “in honor of” me, please visit: <https://nfb.org/contribute/CIM> https://nfb.org/contribute/CIM”
