If you want to randomize a number or word Bryan's option is good, but 
for those who still have javascript disabled you can just use a static 
number or word test such as "Put this number in the 'Enter' field; xxx" 
or "Enter the answer of xx plus x into the 'sum' field" and have the 
field properly labeled. Don't label it as 'check' or 'non-human' or 
'captcha' or 'test' since robots can look for commonly named fields 
labels like that and plug in anything just for a try at a lucky shot.
